Alva's Lakin Gaddy (00) looks for a way to the basket around Woodward's Bryleight Douglas-Fischer (21).

There was some unplanned excitement during the Alva Ladybug game Tuesday night. Toward the end of the first quarter play between Alva and Woodward, the fire alarm sounded. People were filing out and the teams were preparing to exit the floor when the announcer said it was a false alarm. The newspaper's photographer said the alarm was set off by burnt popcorn in the concession stand. There was no more popcorn served that evening.

Play resumed, and the Ladybugs led 12-7 at the end of the quarter. The Alva team continued to increase their lead and defeated the Woodward Lady Boomers 61-39.

First Half

Woodward was first on the scoreboard, but a trey by Lakin Gaddy gave Alva a one point edge. Then Carly Argo scored, and Alva led 5-2. Lady Boomer Jocelyn Treece followed her earlier basket with a three-point shot to tie the game at five. The Ladybugs pulled ahead with a couple of free throws by Gaddy and a right wing three by Argo. After the fire siren interruption, Thessaly Pfeifer scored for Woodward, and Alva's Jaycee Kelln finished out the quarter with a basket. Alva led 12-7.

Pfeifer added another Woodward basket to open the second quarter. Briley Douglas Fischer made one of two free throws, and the Ladybug lead was cut to two points. Alva's Hadlee Ohm scored, but Pfeifer answered with another basket. Ohm put another one through the hoop and was fouled. After she made her free throw shot, Alva led 17-12. Pfeifer scored again, but Gaddy sank the ball from three-point range. Riley Moore made a Woodward basket, cutting Alva's margin to four. Gaddy went to the charity stripe and made both shots. With seconds to go, Argo sank a three point shot to give Alva a 25-16 lead at halftime.

Second Half

Woodward's Fischer led off the third quarter with a basket. Following a steal by Gaddy, Kelln scored and was fouled. Her free throw was good, and Alva led by ten at 28-18. Moore scored for Woodward and then committed her fourth foul of the game, sending her to the bench. Ladybug Channing Ferguson scored on an Argo assist to keep the margin at ten. Pfeifer sank a trey and followed with a basket to cut Alva's lead to five. Argo boosted the Ladybug score with a right wing three. Ohm scored on an Adair pass, and Argo hit another three-pointer from the right wing. Kelln finished out the Ladybug 10-0 run with a stick-back. The Ladybugs now led by 15 points. Woodward's Fischer and Pfeifer scored baskets. Morgan Heath took the ball to the rim for Alva. At the end of three periods, the Ladybugs led 42-29.

The Lady Boomers were first to score in the final period off a Pfeifer basket. Kelln was fouled and made both free throws. Kelln followed that up with an Alva basket. Argo sank both of her free throws, and the Ladybugs had a 17 point lead. Lexi Mendell made two free throws for Woodward. Fischer followed with a lay in to cut further into Alva's lead. Then Gaddy hit two free throws, following with a basket and another made free throw. The Ladybugs led by 20 points at 53-35. Pfeifer objected too strongly to being called for a travel, earning a technical. Gaddy went to the line and made one of the two shots. Kelln made a basket off the glass and was fouled. She made the free throw. Then Argo sank a deep three-point shot, her fifth of the game. Woodward's Moore fouled out, and Kelln went to the line where she made one of two shots. Woodward had the final four points of the game from Mendell and Pfeifer, but the Ladybugs won 61-39.
