Spicer honored for 50 years as voice of South Barber FFA Work Auction
• Auction and donations bring in $30,000

When auctioneer and realtor Sam Spicer of Hazelton, Kansas, picked up the microphone to start the bidding for the South Barber FFA's Annual Work Auction last week it was his 50th year to be a part of the tradition.
Spicer's title should include comedian as he almost always has the crowd in stitches. As he auctions FFA members he often teases them – really elaborating on the funny comment about each member written by their name on the sale bill.
South Barber FFA Chapter Advisor Tommy Hutson commented on Spicer, "What do you say to 50 years of continuous support! There is no way to know how many dollars Sam has helped raise over the years for the South Barber FFA Chapter. I am sure I speak for all of the members and teachers before me when I say we appreciate his support and the support of the many guys who have helped him auctioneer and take bids over the years."
Hutson said the auction brought in about $28,000. Then with more donations that evening and the next few days, the total raised reached $30,000.
"We just can't say enough how much we appreciate everyone coming out and helping us to have a great evening. We especially appreciate our generous and loyal local supporters who are always there for our South Barber students, at whatever they may be involved in. But I would also like to say thank you to the many businesses and individuals from around the area who came out to support our chapter as well. In reality, all of our small towns really do feed off of each other and I appreciate many of them being willing to extend their support to our FFA chapter here in Kiowa as well."
