By all accounts, Winnie Simms was really nice, sweet, down-to-earth, and well-liked by everyone who knew her.
She was born Winnie Lee Honea in Lincoln County, Tennessee, on March 30, 1925. While in high school she fell in love with a local boy named Grant Simms, who was a little more than a year older than Winnie.
So, when Grant graduated from high school, Winnie still had to finish her senior year. World War II was going on, and Grant joined the army and left Lincoln County. In time, however, he returned and he and Winnie (of course!) got married.
