A gift check sent to an old address ended up in the wrong hands, according to charges filed in Woods County on Thursday, March 30.

The investigation began Nov. 2, 2022, when William Simon went to the Woods County Sheriff’s Office to make a report of his banking information and thousands of dollars being stolen over the past several months.

Simon said he had not been monitoring his banking accounts as often as he normally does. He said he checked his bank statement and noticed there were several transactions not made by him, so he went to BancCentral in Alva to figure out his options.
