Two firefighters from Waynoka were injured in a wildfire south of Dacoma and east of Waynoka Saturday. According to the Waynoka fire department social media posting, one man is recovering at home while the other is in the hospital. The more seriously injured firefighter was medi-flighted to Wichita where he is being treated in a burn unit.
The fire started as a controlled burn, but winds increased and caused the fire to spread. Woods County fire departments responded including Alva, Capron, Dacoma, Freedom, Greenleaf and Waynoka. In addition, heavy equipment and operators were sent to the s...
