Barber County has three state rodeo champs headed to National Jr Hi Finals

 

BOUND FOR NATIONAL RODEO COMPETITION – All junior high students at South Barber, these three young cowboys all won at the Kansas State Junior High Rodeo, which qualified them to compete at the National Junior High Finals Rodeo in June. They are (from left) Taisen Ricke, Steele Smith and Paxton Clark.

Last summer young Kiowa cowboy Steele Smith and his team roping partner Logan Vander Hamm of Ingalls rode into the national junior high finals arena in Perry, Georgia, and after competing rode out of the arena as world champions.

The duo has a chance to defend their world champion title after winning the Kansas State Team Roping Championship a few weeks ago. They compete in the National Junior High Finals Rodeo June 18-24 at Perry, Georgia.

Steele and Logan were one of the youngest teams competing last year. Steele is now 13 going into eighth grade at South Barber USD255 in Kiowa. Steele...
