As everyone should know, the United States has experienced several contested (or disputed) elections in its past. In a democracy such as ours, fair elections are crucial to a functioning government.
Adult citizens who are registered to vote have the right to expect their ballots to be counted and the winner of any particular election to be able to serve in the office for which he or she ran.
