Ladybugs roll over Frontier for homecoming

The Alva Ladybugs celebrated homecoming last Friday, Feb. 9, with a 70-41 victory over Frontier. Starting off with a 7-0 lead, the Ladybugs were ahead 17-8 at the end of the first quarter and led the Lady Mustangs 34-17 at halftime. The Alva girls widened the gap in the third quarter to lead 49-28. A big 21-point fourth quarter that included six three-point shots put the Ladybugs on top 70-41 for the final score. With the win, the Ladybugs increased their season record to 17-3.
Lakin Gaddy led the Ladybugs with 20 points followed by Carly Argo with 18, all from treys. Jaycee Kelln had 15 points while Hadlee Ohm scored eight, Kylie Adair four and Morgan Heath three. Channing Ferguson and Asia Blackledge each scored one point at the foul line.
Frontier was led by Bonnie Childs with 14 and Kenly Kauk with 11. Paige Pratt and Kaiden Spidell scored six points apiece. Kye Ruff and Maria Orr had two points each.
Ladybugs Win at Woodward
On Tuesday, Alva traveled to Woodward, bringing home another win and increasing their season record to 18-3. The Ladybugs were in front 12-6 at the end of the first quarter. The score stayed close throughout the game until the fourth quarter. Woodward had narrowed the lead to four, but the Ladybugs scored 23 points while holding the Boomers to 12. Alva won 48-31.
Lakin Gaddy led the Ladybugs with 17 points followed by Jaycee Kelln with 13. Morgan Heath had seven points and Hadlee Ohm five. Kambri Rhodes and Carly Argo each scored two points. The Alva girls were an accurate 16 of 19 from the free throw line.
Woodward was led by Riley Moore with ten points followed by Jocelyn Treece with nine, Kaleigh Mills with six, Lexi Mendenhall with five and Bailey Nelson with one. They struggled at the free throw line making seven of 15 attempts.
The Ladybugs were at home Thursday night, Feb. 8, for a rescheduled game against the Newkirk Lady Tigers. The final game of the regular season is Monday at Hooker with tipoff at 6:30 p.m.
Class 3A district playoffs are next weekend. Alva will host Chisholm on Saturday, Feb. 17, with the girls' game starting at 6:30 p.m.
