About 150 sign up for Goldbug Gulp and Gallop

The Goldbug Gulp and Gallop meals have been highly successful in getting signups this summer. In fact, they’ve been so successful they are asking for donations. Approximately 150 kids have signed up, through parents and guardians, for the program. Anyone with children ages 1-18 is invited to contact Goldbug Gulp and Gallop to enroll in the program, although their primary focus is Alva. There’s a QR code on their Facebook page and also on posters around Alva directing you to the signup.

Those enrolled in the program are asked to choose between Monday and Thursday to pick up meals. A parent or guardian must handle the pickup between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on their assigned day. Five days of food, covering breakfast and lunch, will be handed out. Because of the large number enrolled, the Goldbug Gulp and Gallop recently moved their pickup location to the Northwestern Oklahoma State University football concession stand. Vehicles may enter from Thunderbird Road to the south or from the north entrance at Monroe and 9th Street.

The larger number they are serving means the Woods County Coalition is running short of supplies. Although there’s a list on the Goldbug Gulp and Gallop Facebook page, Amber Maier said monetary donations stretch further. They can get discounted rates on supplies through the food bank and through some local businesses. Monetary donations may be dropped off at Northwest Family Services, 620 Flynn in Alva. If writing out a check, make it to CFO (Communities Foundation of Oklahoma). On the check’s memo line write Goldbug Gallop. If mailing your donation, send it to the attention of Amber Maier at Northwest Family Services.

Meals will be distributed throughout June and July. If there is food left over at the end of July, the meals will continue longer, possibly up to the beginning of school.

“We’re super excited to do this again,” said Maier. The Woods County Coalition is pleased to be able to provide this service to help families.
