• Smith and Partner Vander Hamm won nationals in 2022, took third in 2023
South Barber's Steele Smith (at the front, the header) was named All-Around Cowboy at the Kansas Junior High School Rodeo Association finals. He's shown at the state finals competing with his partner Logan Vander Hamm. They were the State Champion Team Ropers, so will compete at the national contest in Iowa June 23-29.
Two summers ago, as a sixth grader at South Barber, Steele Smith and his team roping partner won the national championship in Georgia. Last year, the team roping duo took third at nationals. This past weekend, they were Team Roping Champions at the Kansas Junior High School Rodeo Association finals. This qualifies them to again compete at nationals, which is in Des Moines, Iowa, on June 23-29.
