Farmers in the Alva area still have time to plant winter canola to help meet expected growing demand for renewable fuels, said Jeff Frazier, a manager with agribusiness company Scoular.
Frazier said Scoular’s new canola crush facility in Goodland, Kansas, will process both canola and soybeans for renewable fuels. The facility is on track to launch operations in October 2024.
The planting window for winter canola in the High Plains runs from about early September through mid-October, Frazier said. Canola planted this fall will be harvested in summer 2025.
