Many reasons to celebrate in August

Earlier this year I saved a file listing the various “national days.” Although these days haven’t been officially proclaimed by Congress, they’re fun to read. One year when my grandchildren were young, I gave each of them a calendar as part of their Christmas gifts. One or two of them featured these obscure “days” to be celebrated, and the kids loved those. It seems now that we celebrate a national holiday every couple of weeks with the inconvenience of the post office, banks and governmental offices closed.
