When it comes to strange, we have the market cornered at Scribner Salvage

As we were driving away from the salvage, a friend flagged us down and wondered if I had a strange cat at the salvage. I hadn't seen any extras, so he told me his story. He brought some stuff to leave for me, and when he went to get back in his truck, his cat was sitting by the door and promptly jumped out. He said it panicked and ran away before he could catch it. They have unsuccessfully found two or three lookalikes, but not his. I haven't talked to him for a couple of days, but if you have a plump, well-fed tuxedo cat show up at your house, please detain him and call me. Only pet owners understand, but losing a pet is like losing a family member. In my case, I have a couple of cats I like better than some family members. Thank you for your help.

I want to mention and congratulate two Kiowa, Kansas, folks. Bob Rice is a 99-year-old World War II veteran and Purple Heart recipient. Mr. Rice, thank you for allowing Yvonne Miller to bring us your story. You and all the men and women who have fought for our country are the reason I can write opinions without fear of reprisals. Thank you and all who have made our country safe.

The other lady Yvonne wrote about, Lenora Dodds, makes sure we don't forget the sacrifices all American fighting men and women did for our country. "The Poppy Lady," as she is known, is the Kiowa VFW president and supporter of its activities. Thank you for being there lest we forget the true meaning of Veteran's Day.

Wednesday evening the Moose Lodge had a feed for veterans. My son, Justin, former Marine and National Guard member, took me as his guest. As always, it was a great meal and a brief ceremony. Thank you so much for honoring our service men and women.

One thing I noticed. There are fewer older veterans every year, and not many younger service members. I asked a friend about the young people, and he said the ones he talked to that had not served overseas didn't consider themselves veterans. I say poppycock! Just because you were in country for your tour, you would have gone wherever they sent you to defend us. Next year, you come to the meal and be recognized as the brave people you are.

Great news! If I go test drive a car at a local dealer, they will give me a free turkey. I am going to call and see if they are going to do a credit check before I drive the car, and how many salesmen they have. With a disguise, I might get two or three turkeys before they catch on.

I see where they are having an 80th birthday party for my friend Eddie Cushenbery on Saturday. The where and when is in the Newsgram. Eddie should be in Guinness World Records as the oldest carpet layer ever. Happy Birthday, friend.

Let's all be safe out there and God bless.
