Waynoka Public Schools had been preparing for the solar eclipse for over a week. Mr. Meriwether, principal of Waynoka Public Schools, felt this event had the ability to have important impact on his students.

Faith Kincade, Traben Redgate, Kellen Allison and Kolten Childers take it easy as they watch the solar eclipse.

Partnering with the high school science teacher, students have been able to have hands-on experience of this event. High school students were able to teach and demonstrate to younger students about the highly unique event. Directions and education have been ongoing in the school and he believed the teachers were doing a good job educating their students about what an eclipse is.

Each grade level learned something about the event. Many teachers took the opportunity to make viewing boxes out of old cereal boxes, allowing them to watch the eclipse more safely. Students were given the opportunity to view the eclipse with NASA-approved glasses as well, with a signed permission slip from parents.

Waynoka Public Schools was so excited to use this very rare solar eclipse as a teaching moment that we hope creates memories that last a lifetime.
