Hillcats Earn First-Ever Win over St. Edward's on Senior Day

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State women's soccer team scored two goals in the first half to upend St. Edward's, 2-1, for the first-ever victory over the Hilltoppers on Senior Day at Soldier Field on Saturday afternoon.

The navy and red jumped SEU in the conference standings to rank second with 19 points and a 6-3-1 record. The Cats are currently one point behind first place Dallas Baptist University. RSU also picked up its 10th win as they moved to 10-3-1 overall.

Senior Alexis Pryor put the Hillcats up 1-0 in the fourth minute on her sixth goal of the season. She scored on a shot in front after a cross in from the left wing from senior Daisy Cardona for the early 1-0 edge.

RSU increased the lead to 2-0 with only seconds left in the first half. Freshman Hannah Mushisky tallied the game-winning goal in the 45th minute as she scored on a deflected pass from senior Suvannah Melton, who registered the assist.

The Cats dominated the opening 45 minutes with a strong wind at their back, holding a 7-1 advantage in shots. RSU put five shots on frame to none from SEU in the first half.

The Hilltoppers got one goal late in the 81st minute for the final 2-1 score.

For the game, RSU held a 10-7 edge in shots and a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Junior goalkeeper Taylor Sargent earned the win in goal, totaling one save in 90 minutes. She moved to 10-3-1 on the season.

The win was the first-ever victory over St. Edward's, the 2016 Heartland Conference champion. The Hillcats were 0-5-1 all-time against the Hilltoppers before today's game. The tie came a season ago on Sept. 22, 2016 at Soldier Field in a 1-1 contest.

RSU honored eight seniors at the conclusion of the game. Megan Bell, LeighAnn Craig, Katarina Perez, Suvannah Melton Amanda Tewes, Alexis Pryor, Daisy Cardona and Lexi Ellingsen were recognized following their final home contest at Soldier Field.

The Hillcats end the regular season with four straight road games. The stretch starts at Texas A&M International on Thursday (Oct. 19) in Laredo, Texas. Start time is set for 7:30 p.m.
