March 25, 2018

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Southeastern softball was led by Sydnee Hinkle who put together a 5-for-6 day at the plate en route to a road split with Ouachita Baptist on Friday evening in Arkedelphia, Ark., taking the opener 3-1 before falling in the nightcap 7-6.

The split moves the Savage Storm to 19-12 overall and 13-5 in Great American Conference play with the final two games of the series slated for a noon double-header on Saturday.

Elexis Watson, Symphoni Shomo, and Sydnee Hinkleeach recorded a pair of hits, but it was a three-run home by Hinkle that drove in all three of SE's runs in the game.

Kelsey Meeks got the start and tossed her 14th complete game, allowing a run on four hits over her 7.0 innings pitched with two strikeouts. The win lifts her win total to 16 on the season.

OBU took advantage of a leadoff walk in the bottom of the first and took a 1-0 lead.

The Strom would strand five runners over the first five innings, but after Keeshia Thompson drew a one-out walk and was followed by Mykaela Wallace getting hit by a pitch it would set the stage in the sixth inning for Hinkle's homer to center which put SE in front 3-1 which would hold up to be the final score.

SE scored first in the nightcap on a Watson solo homer in the top of the third, but OBU answered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to leave the Storm in a 4-1 hole.

A Wallace solo shot in the fourth and a Marisa Fleck pinch-hit double in the sixth would close the gap to 4-3 heading to the final inning.

SE would continue its momentum, first on an RBI single by Destiny Riddle to tie the game, followed by a two-run Thompson homer to open up a 6-4 lead midway through the seventh.

Unfortunately, the Tigers would take advantage of two walks and an SE error to bring in three unearned runs and swipe the contest 7-6 to split the twinbill.

Hinkle finished game two 3-for-4, while Shomo added a pair of hits.

Thompson picked up a pair of RBI, while Watson, Riddle, Wallace, and Fleck added one each.

Riddle got the start and tossed 3.0 innings in a no decision, allowing four runs on six hits with two strikeouts.

Emily Cudd pitched 1.1 innings in relief, allowing two hits and striking out one, before handing the ball to Meeks who was saddled with the loss after allowing three unearned runs on three hits in 2.0 innings of work.
