ALVA, Okla. – Northwestern Oklahoma State softball hosted Henderson State for the second straight day and came away with a win in Game One, 8-7, but a 3-0 loss in the second to split the four-game slate.

Game 1

Northwestern recorded 12 hits in Game One of the afternoon, with four different players having multi-hit games in Madi Parrott (2-for-3), Jordan Sutton (2-for-4), Macy Madewell (2-for-3) and Brittany Corrales (2-for-4).

Madison Garza went the distance and earned her second straight win against the Reddies in a wild 8-7 finish.

For the third game in a row, Henderson State led off the game with a score on a double to left, but weren't allowed a run until the fourth inning following the opening 1-0 advantage.

The Rangers answered, but it wasn't until the bottom of the second where Corrales earned a triple after a shot to the right field fence, plating Madewell. She was then brought home on a passed ball to take a 2-1 lead.

Henderson then took a commanding five-run lead throughout the next couple of innings, but it wasn't a lead for long.

In the bottom half of the sixth inning, the Ranger offense came alive. A walk and two straight singles led to the bases being loaded, when freshman Designated Player Jada Overby stepped to the plate and hit a mammoth HR to center field, bringing the Red and Black back to life and back within one, 7-6.

Following Overby's homerun, the home team loaded the bases again and a single by Sutton through the left side plated the tying run.

Garza who was steady the entire game shut down the Reddies in the final frame, giving the hosts a chance to win it in the final inning, and it happened when Katie Bell hit a solid double up the middle and in walk-off fashion, the Rangers took game three of the series, 8-7.

Game 2

Lady Ranger pitcher Karly Murray winds up for her pitch during Monday's game against Henderson State.

Game Four of the hard-fought weekend between the two teams was a highly contested one just like the other three, but unfortunately for the Rangers, it finished as a 3-0 loss.

Northwestern didn't have their best game at the plate, only recording seven hits. Overby, however, was the only Ranger to have two hits in the contest, going 2-for-3.

Henderson only had single run innings throughout the seven innings, plating runs in the third, the fourth and the seventh, which was enough to win it.

The biggest chance for the Rangers came in the last inning where two Rangers got on base, but the game would unfortunately end on a double play with the Reddies winning the final contest, 3-0.

Up Next

Northwestern will finish up the regular season schedule this coming weekend today and Saturday against Harding. The games today are set to start at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. while first pitch on Saturday begins at noon and 2 p.m.
