If you just want to have an afternoon of old-fashioned fun, head to Kiowa's Fall Fest this Sunday, Oct. 29, from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Most important, bring your appetite – and your costume, your decorated pumpkin, meat you prepared your favorite way for the cookoff .... The action will be up and down Main Street of Kiowa, Kansas. Plan to eat a braut for lunch and an ear of the Shriner's corn-on-the-cob. There's bake sales, dream cakes and more to indulge your sweet tooth. Check the coffee house for cookies, muffins and cinnamon apple cider. Merchants up and down Main Street will be open for your shopping convenience. For the first time ever, Kiowa's Fall Fest features their First Annual Meat Cook-off. This is for anyone who likes to cook meat in any way – whether it's on the grill, or in the oven or crockpot. Just make your favorite. Prepare enough for 15–20 people. Have your prepared meat to Centennial Park by the gazebo (across from the community building) by 4:30 p.m, ready to serve. The chamber, which sponsors Kiowa's Fall Fest, will have potatoes, baked beans and bread available to serve with the meat. Serving starts at 5 p.m. For $5 you can grab a plate and cast your vote for the favorite meat you sample.
