Women's golf pre-season poll released

September 2, 2016

The Northwestern women's golf team has been selected to finish eighth after a vote by the conference head coaches. Northwestern received seven votes, six behind Harding, who finished just ahead of the Rangers in last year's conference tournament.

The Rangers will welcome back junior standout Olivia Brock, who led the team in scoring average the last two years. Brock will look to build on an impressive performance at last year's conference tournament where she shot rounds of 85-82-78 to finish t-22nd.

In just a half year of recruiting after taking the reigns of the program midway through the season last fall, Head Coach Aaron Ford was able to bring in two strong recruits to contribute to this year's team. Hallie Ward, the younger sister of former Ranger and current men's Head Coach Kyle Ward, and Madison Hopper, who just finished up a stellar high school career at golf powerhouse Keller High School in Fort Worth, Texas, will look to build a solid foundation for the future of the program this upcoming season.

Sophomore Kennedy Jewell will also be relied on to produce early and often for the Rangers after the promising improvement she made during her first year as a Ranger. Jewell dropped her scoring average nearly seven strokes between the fall and spring semesters.

Noteable returners for Ford's 2016 team include veteran Klarissa Vela and sophomores Nikkole Donk and Brittani Casement.

The Rangers will kick off their season Sept. 12-13 at the NSU Women's Classic in Talequah.
