California man arrested for trespassing on campus

September 11, 2016

A man found living in a campus dorm room that was supposed to be empty was told to stay away from the campus. He was back a day later.

According to court documents, Northwestern Oklahoma State University (NWOSU) Housing Director Kaylyn Hansen and Ament Hall Supervisor Zach Postoak reported the problem to Gavin Shields of the campus police. Hansen and Postoak said they had verbally warned Bentres Morgan on multiple occasions to leave the campus. He had been seen in the Ament Hall dorm and was living in that area without paying for housing in an unoccupied room. He was also not an active student at NWOSU.

On Aug. 30 Hansen and Postoak again asked Morgan to leave the campus and reported him to Shields who escorted him to the campus police office. Shields read him the campus notice to leave form, and Morgan signed it and left the campus.

On Aug. 31 about 5:40 p.m. Postoak and Hansen again notified Shields that Morgan was on campus without permission. Shields told him he was not allowed on campus to which Morgan said that he was “not a real officer just security.”

Shields said he was a police officer and arrested Morgan, placing him in handcuffs. He then took him to the Woods County Jail.

Bentres Jabrail Morgan, 26, of Fullerton, California, has been charged with a misdemeanor of trespass after being forbidden.
