Western Honor Choir 2016

November 4, 2016

On Monday, Oct. 24, several students from Alva high and middle schools went to Elk City to perform in the Western Honor Choir concert.

Western Honor Choir (WOCDA) is an audition-only elite choir filled with students from across the western part of the state. This year the auditions were held Oct. 1, and several students from Alva attended. Luckily everyone from Alva who auditioned made one of the three WOCDA choirs.

The students who made the Junior High Mixed Choir were Emily Barton, Delaney Lambert, Mackenzie Morris, Jaydan Coffman, Ali Harzman, Zachary Wallis, Brickman Bradt, and Sebastian Vickers. The students who made the Treble (Women’s) Choir were Abigail Hurst, Linda McDonald, Jarin Shirley, Mason Bogdanovecz, Callie Duncan, Hannah Kornele, Leah Maier, and Alaina Hurst. Brayden Thomas made the High School Mixed Choir.

This year the Western Honor Choir concert was held in Elk City. Every year it is held in a different town on the western side of the state.

The students arrived at Elk City High School early in the morning, and had rehearsals the whole day. During the rehearsals they met their conductor and practiced their songs for several hours. Then that evening each choir performed their set of songs to a packed crowd.

Several awards for membership are given out during the concert. Many students from Alva received awards for either three or six years of membership.

“WOCDA is a unique choir that I’ve been privileged to be a part of for five years. I’ve made many memories and new friends through WOCDA,” said AHS junior Callie Duncan.
