Hughes appointed trustee of Oklahoma Teacher Retirement

Christa Leamon Hughes was appointed by the Speaker of the House as the retired educator representative to the Oklahoma Teachers Retirement System Board of Trustees. Hughes began her teaching career in 1978 at Fairivew Public Schools in northwest Oklahoma and retired from teaching at Cherokee in 2014. She is a graduate of Carmen-Dacoma High School and Northwestern Oklahoma State University, where she has also taught education courses as an adjunct instructor.

Hughes is a member of the United Methodist Church serving on many committees, including chairman of the administrative board. She also served as past president of Epsilon Sigma Alpha.

She and her husband, Dean, live in Carmen where he is a farmer and rancher. Their daughter graduated from the University of Oklahoma and their son is a graduate of Oklahoma State University. Hughes enjoys spending time with their five grandchildren and spending time at Grand Lake.
