UAM Women's Basketball holds on to defeat Ouachita on the road

Arkadelphia, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team was victorious on the road against Great American Conference foe Ouachita Baptist Thursday evening by a final score of 74-67.

UAM (7-7, 4-6 GAC) secured the win over the hosting Tigers of Ouachita Baptist (7-9, 4-6 GAC) through its solid shooting throughout the match-up. The Blossoms shoot 50 percent from the field in the opening half and followed up with shooting 71 percent from three point range in the second half. Arkansas-Monticello saw its largest lead at 16 points in the fourth quarter and never trailed once in the final period leading tot the 74-67 win.

Leading the offensive attack for the Blossoms was sophomore Ayesha Wahid with 21 total points, shooting 8-for-17 in the match-up. Wahid was able to pull down four rebounds in the contest also and added three steals to her overall stat line.


Senior Nelsha Peterson and junior Taylor Collins each record double figures in the game as well with Peterson totaling 17 and Collins went on to put up 13 points herself. Brittnee Broadway posted a solid overall stat line with six points, and a team leading six assists and eight rebounds.

Final team statistics for Arkansas-Monticello included shooting 49 percent (27-for-55) from the field, 67 percent (8-for-12) on three pointers, and 67 percent (12-for-18) from the free throw line. OBU finished the night shooting 44 percent (27-for-61) overall, 29 percent on three's (5-for-17), and 67 percent (8-for-12) from the charity stripe.

Arkansas-Monticello will return to the court next this Saturday, January 21 as they host GAC opponent #14 Arkansas Tech inside Steelman Field House with tip-off slated for 2 p.m.
