Golden Suns shine in Monticello

MONTICELLO, Ark. – Danielle Frachiseur scored a team-high 14 points, Kelsey McClure and Brianna Williams added 13, Cheyenne North scored 12 and Calli White scored 10 as the No. 14 Arkansas Tech Golden Suns basketball team (13-2, 9-2 GAC) rolled to an 82-57 win over Arkansas-Monticello (7-8, 4-7 GAC) on Saturday afternoon at Steelman Fieldhouse.

Arkansas Tech continues its road swing on Thursday, January 26 at Northwestern Oklahoma. A 5:30 p.m. tip-off is scheduled.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Golden Suns opened up a nine-point (14-5) advantage over the first five minutes of the contest, stretching the lead into double figures (20-9) with 1:43 remaining in the quarter, taking a ten-point (21-11) lead into the second quarter.

Tech scored the first ten points of the second quarter to jump ahead by 20 (31-11) with 6:22 remaining until half.

UAM cut its deficit to 17 before the Golden Suns pushed ahead again, settling into half with a 24-point (45-21) advantage.


Tech's lead hit 27 (51-24) at the 6:11 mark of the third quarter after a layup by Danielle Frachiseur.

Brianna Williams buried a 3-pointer at the 1:56 mark of the third quarter to push Tech's lead over 30 points (60-29) for the first time in the contest.

Those points were part of another 10-0 run that was snapped when UAM went to the free-throw line with 46.5 seconds remaining in the quarter.

The Golden Suns took a 67-33 lead into the fourth quarter.

Arkansas Tech was outscored 24-15 in the fourth quarter.

NOTABLES

Tech outshot UAM 52.9 to 33.3 percent in the first quarter, 69.2 to 26.7 percent in the second quarter, and 60.0 to 27.3 percent in the third quarter before being outshot 63.6 to 42.9 percent in the fourth quarter.


UAM did not have a field goal between the 5:56 mark and the 0:18 mark of the third quarter, a stretch of 5:38.

The Golden Suns outrebounded UAM 42-17 and held a 55.9 to 36.7 percent advantage in shooting for the game.

Frachiseur led all players with eight rebounds.

Tech held a 44-16 advantage in points in the paint, a 12-5 advantage in second-chance points, and a 6-0 advantage in fast-break points. Points off turnovers were even at 13-13.
