Fourth-Straight Win Gives Lady Dawgs Second-Series Sweep of the Week

February 5, 2017

MONTICELLO, Ark. – SWOSU Women's Basketball defeated Arkansas-Monticello 81-72 on Saturday afternoon to earn their fourth consecutive victory – the longest winning streak the Lady Dawgs have gone on this season. The win also gives the Lady Bulldogs their second-straight GAC season series sweep after already collecting their first against Southern Arkansas earlier in the week.

The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a nine-point lead at 21-12 by the end of the first quarter after Hailey Tucker wasted no time in posting double-digits, as the sophomore scored 10 in the opening 10 minutes. Tucker would get into foul trouble in the second quarter and score no more points until the fourth quarter of the contest.

SWOSU would go through a cold spurt in the second quarter and allow Arkansas-Monticello to creep back into the game after the Cotton Blossoms connected on six of their last seven field goals while the Lady Dawgs went through a three-minute stretch with no made baskets to close out the quarter. SWOSU took a one-point lead into the locker room.

In the second half SWOSU proved to be too much for Monticello, outscoring UAM in each of the final two quarters to pull away. The Bulldogs led by as many as 13 in the fourth quarter and ended the game up nine. The Cotton Blossoms got within six with 5:39 left to play in the game but the Dawgs would answer with a run of their own to push the lead back to double digits and give them breathing room for the remained of the game.

Five Lady Dawgs scored in double-digits led by Tucker and Priddy with 17 each, followed by Gray with 16, Aska with 11 and Hedrick coming off the bench and adding 10. Priddy led the squad with her nine assists while Whitney Dunn grabbed 10 boards to lead in the rebounding department.

"Tucker going down with foul trouble really hurt us, but our girls stepped up around her when we needed them to and helped get this win," Head Coach Kelsi Musick Said. "We have a really good team, and that's why, because we have players who pick each other up and play better when we need them to."

SWOSU (14-6, 10-4 GAC) will be on the road next Thursday against Southern Nazarene before ending the regular season with six of their final seven games inside the Pioneer Cellular Event Center in Weatherford.
