Ladybugs take down the Lady Mustangs

RED ROCK, Okla.—The Alva High School Ladybugs had another road game on Friday night as they battled against the Frontier Lady Mustangs in a hard-fought win heading into the weekend.

Whitney Randall led the way, attacking the basket while Frontier couldn’t find an answer for her along the baseline. The Ladybugs inside game helped notch a 52-48 victory over the Lady Mustangs, but it was a tough win.

It was a close matchup throughout the entire night with five tie-ups and six lead changes before halftime. Though the Lady Mustangs led Alva 23-25 going into the second half, the Ladybugs were controlling the inside of the paint.

Lexie Shafer joined Randall’s onslaught in the paint scoring 10 of her 12 points for the night in the final two quarters against Frontier. Shafer and Randall’s inside game, coupled with a big three-pointer from Ally Riley sealed their win for the rest of the game going into the the fourth quarter with a 38-35 lead.


Stats

Randall led Alva with 25 points for the night hitting 11-of-14 from the field. Randall also had four rebounds and two assists. Shafer finished the night with 12 points shooting 6-of-7 from the field to go with her four rebounds.

Other contributors for the Ladybugs were Riley (8 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals), Payton Jones (4 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist) and Cathy Mapes (3 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals).

Up next for Alva, they will host the Fairview Lady Yellow Jackets this Tuesday, Feb. 7, with a tipoff scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
