Reddies, Hunt Shutout Arkansas-Fort Smith 4-0

February 5, 2017

Chris Hunt struck out a career-high nine batters in six innings of work to lead Henderson State to a 4-0 win over Arkansas-Fort Smith, Friday in Fort Smith.

The Reddies began the season earlier in the day with a 4-2 win over Pittsburg State.

Hunt pitched six complete innings allowing just two hits, with only three players reaching base and no one advancing second base as the right-hander from Greenwood, Ark. picked up his seventh consecutive win dating back to last year.

The game was scoreless until the Reddies scored a pair of runs in the third inning. Brentten Schwaab reached to lead off the inning when he was hit by a pitch.

Alan Hall and Parker Jones put together back-to-back singles to load the bases before Jordan Taylor brought in the first run with a sacrifice fly to centerfield.

The Reddies loaded the bases as Hayden Lessenberry was hit by a pitch. Hall scored when Kearon Redmon walked to put Henderson on top 2-0.

Henderson added a pair of insurance runs in the ninth-inning as Schwaab, who singled earlier in the frame, scored on a fielder's choice by Hall. Hall advanced to third on a single by Parker Jones and later scored on a passed ball.

UAFS would mount its only threat of the game in the bottom of the inning as the Lions put two runners on by virtue of a walk and a hit batter.

However, Kasey Cooper hit a fly ball to deep centerfield but Hall ran it down and was able to double-up Anthony Seminaris to end the game.

Henderson worked out four pitchers with the Reddies allowing just two hits while totaling 11 strike outs. Hayden Daniel, Jon Youngblood and Colton Coffman all pitched an inning each with Daniel and Coffman both recording a strikeout.

Jones led the Reddies offensively having four of Henderson's seven hits in the game. The senior from The Colony, Texas went 6-fo-7 in the two games Friday, while Joe Myers, Schwaab and Hall had two hits each.

The Reddies will finish the weekend road trip with a rematch against Pittsburg State at 1 p.m. on the campus of Arkansas-Fort Smith.
