Burlington Spelling Bee Winners - (Back row, from left) Jackson Feely, Nancy Klippenstein and Briggs Jewell; (front row) Harlee Taylor, Cash Dotson, Payton Dillman, Harley Smart and Hudson Feely.

The Burlington School Spelling Bee was on Jan. 18. Students in grades first through eighth competed. Kiley Feely recited words to the students from a pre-selected list. Students were asked to repeat the word and spell it in front of a panel of judges, and an audience of students and parents. Some students appeared to be a bit nervous but others were excited about the competition.

There were eight students, two from each division, who were able to spell their way to victory. The first- and second-grade champion was Cash Dotson, and in second place was Harlee Taylor. The third- and fourth-grade winner was Payton Dillman with Hudson Feely in second place. In the fifth- and sixth-grade division Harley Smart was the champion and Briggs Jewell was runner-up. Finally, in the junior high division, Jackson Feely was the winner, and Nancy Klippenstein ended as runner-up. Way to go spellers!
