WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Wichita marijuana proponents plan to resume efforts to reduce penalties for marijuana possession in the city.

Janice Bradley and Esau Freeman asked the Wichita City Council Tuesday to pass an initiative to reduce the penalties as a charter ordinance.

The Wichita Eagle reports (http://bit.ly/2oW25hq ) the activists plan to start a third petition drive during Tuesday's special election to replace U.S. Rep. Mike Pompeo. But the council could make that unnecessary by passing the charter ordinance.
