Wheat cutting just starting in Newsgram reading area, rain halted combines

• Barring rain, cutting expected to start again Tuesday

 


“We took in four loads Friday before it rained,” Alva Farmers Cooperative General Manager Ronnie Truelock said. “That was all out at the Ashley Elevator east of Alva. The quality was good.”

“We're wet,” Truelock said of Alva area fields that saw another estimated one inch of rain Saturday. He said if the grain will go (hit the required moisture level of 14 or under) Truelock estimates combines will be in the fields by the time you are reading this story.

“Farmers will tell you they have some really good lookin' wheat and some that is not so good,” Truelock said. He said some of the wheat down...
