10 Rangers to Watch series: Kelsi Wilson

The Northwestern Oklahoma State Athletic Department will be announcing ten Rangers throughout the summer that Ranger fans can expect to make direct impacts on their team's success. These athletes are leaders for their respective sports and will be looking to contribute to the rise of Northwestern Athletics during the 2017-2018 school year.

In just one semester of action for the Rangers following a mid-semester transfer, Kelsi Wilson established herself as a reliable contributor for the women's golf team this past season. Wilson led the team with an 81.2 scoring average through just 10 rounds during the spring semester, and was instrumental in the program's 61-stroke improvement over the course of a year at the Great American Conference Championships.

Wilson led the Rangers in the event with a 23rd-place finish with a three-round cumulative of 245 (81-86-78.) The Elk City native started off her quality end to the semester in the final two tournaments with a school record round of 75 at the Arkansas-Fort Smith Lions Classic at Hardscrabble Country Club in Fort Smith, Arkansas. That round of 75 stands as the lowest round shot by a Rangers women's golfer in the school's NCAA Division II era.

“Kelsi made a big impact on the Ranger golf team this season,” said Rangers head golf coach Aaron Ford. “Every tournament, I could count on Kelsi to go out and put together a good round for the team, and she did just that.”

That consistency and knack for producing quality scores at the right time will be vital for the improving women's golf team as they move forward into the 2017-18 season. The Rangers will return all five of the golfers who competed at the conference tournament, making them a threat to continue to move up the leaderboard in the GAC Championships next spring. Coach Ford says Kelsi's impact will be felt throughout the team, not just during competitive rounds but also during preparation by the team, as she will have a full year to prepare for a full season's worth of tournaments.

“Coming back into competitive golf after a year with the United States Air Force, Wilson showed some times of struggle and some signs of great golf, especially in the latter half of the season,” coach Ford said. “I expect her to have a breakout season for us next year and move into the conference's best as we look to make a run at a regional appearance.”
