Collins leads UAM WBB in season-opening win

St. Charles, Mo. — The University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team officially began the new season with a win over Lincoln University at the MIAA/GAC Challenge by a final score of 66-54.

NOTABLES

UAM improves to 1-0 (0-0 GAC) overall to begin the season.

Lincoln falls to 0-1 (0-0 MIAA) to start the 2017-18 season.

UAM STATS

Taylor Collins: 16 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals

Brittnee Broadway: 13 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals

Charlynn Perry: 11 points, 8 rebounds, 1 block

Chari Swift: 9 points, 3 rebounds

FIRST QUARTER

The Blue Tigers jumped out to an 8-0 lead over the Blossoms to begin this match-up in the opening day of the MIAA/GAC Challenge.

Arkansas-Monticello answered back with a 9-0 run to take the lead over LU, however Lincoln claimed a 15-13 advantage by the end of the opening quarter.

SECOND QUARTER

The Blossoms surged ahead late in the second quarter as UAM generated a 12-2 run, after five straight points from Taylor Collins, and a made jumper by Briana Hayles for the 29-23 advantage. UAM would hold a 31-27 lead at the half.


THIRD QUARTER

UAM was able to hold a lead through the entire third quarter, knocking down shots to counter any offensive attack from the Blue Tigers.

Chari Swift led the Blossoms with seven total points in the period to help keep the UAM advantage over LU.

FOURTH QUARTER

Arkansas-Monticello continued to lead through the remainder of the contest and ultimately claimed the non-conference win at 66-54.

Brittney Broadway, and Taylor Collins led the scoring in the quarter with Broadway totaling six points, and Collins providing five to aid in the victory.


UP NEXT

The Blossoms will continue play at the MIAA/GAC Challenge tomorrow, Saturday, November 11 against host school, Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri with tip-off slated for 5:00 p.m.
