Henderson State Loses GAC Contest to Southern Nazarene 84-52

Southern Nazarene had five players score in double-figures as the Crimson Storm beat Henderson State 84-52, in men's basketball action Thursday at the Duke Wells Center.

The Reddies shot just 33 percent for the game making 17-of-51 shots from the floor while turning the ball over 23 times leading to 27 points for SNU.

Southern Nazarene, 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the GAC, used a pair of 12-0 runs to build a 43-24 halftime lead. The Crimson Storm shot a sizzling 61 percent from the field connecting on 17-of-28 shots.

Kaylon Tappin and Josh Jones provided most of the scoring in the opening 20 minutes with Tappin scoring 12 points while Jones totaled 10 points.

The Reddies, 3-3 and 1-2, could never get the offense going as Tappin and Jones were the only two players to reach double-figures. Tappin finished with a game-high 20 points while Jones totaled 14.

Henderson also had troubles rebounding as the Reddies managed just 23 boards for the contest compared to 46 for the Crimson Storm.


The Crimson Storm was led by Micah Speight and Jhonathan Dunn, both finishing with 15 points.

SNU finished the contest with a shooting percentage of 53 connecting on 34-of-64 shots.

Henderson State will next play host to Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday with tip-off set for 3 p.m. at the Duke Wells Center.
