Cherokee FCCLA chapter travels to Woodward

Sixteen members of the Cherokee High School FCCLA Chapter traveled to Woodward on November 30 to compete in the FCCLA North-1 District STAR Events. STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) are competitive events in which members are recognized for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation. STAR Events offer individual skill development and application of learning through the following activities:

• Cooperative – teams work to accomplish specific goals

• Individualized – an individual member works alone to accomplish specific goals

• Competitive – individual or team performance measured by an established set of criteria

STAR Events are grouped into Foundational, Leadership, Career Preparation and Online Events.

All 16 members who competed placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. Competing in events from Cherokee were:


• Cake Decorating (6-8) – Raylen Weve, 1st

• Cake Decorating (9-10) – Laynie Golden, 3rd

• Cake Decorating (11-12) – Frances Mustard, 1st

• Career Investigation Junior Division – Ruston James, 1st

• Career Investigation Senior Division – Taylor Miller, 1st

• Children's Literature (6-8) – Gracie Leslie, 1st

• Children's Literature (9-10) – Moriah Leslie, 1st

• Children's Literature (11-12) – Shelby Porter, 1st

• Creed Speaking (6-8) – Damien Ramirez, 3rd

• Creed Speaking (9-10) – Katie Dahn, 3rd

• Illustrated Talk Senior Division – Angel Hernandez, 1st

• Job Interview Senior Division – Elizabeth Fletcher, 2nd

• New Member Facts (6-8) – Lake Lyon, 2nd

• New Member Facts (9-10) – Gaby Solis, 1st

• Recycle and Redesign Junior Division – Macy Goodwin, 2nd

• Recycle and Redesign Senior Division – Taryn Miller, 3rd

Joslyn Clem, North-1 District President also attended to help facilitate the events and present awards during the awards ceremony. First place winners advance to the regional competition which will be held in Woodward on Feb. 8.
