ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita women's basketball team scored 25 points in the fourth quarter to cement a 69-62 victory over East Central University in front of a packed house on Thursday evening.

It was the first season sweep against East Central (7-13, 7-10 GAC) since the 2014-2015 season. The win also puts Ouachita (12-10, 8-8 GAC) back to even in Great American Conference play.

Neither team put on an offensive show in the first half as East Central went into the half up 29-26. East Central was just 10-30 from the field, while Ouachita was just slightly better percentage wise going 10-25 from the field.

The second half was a different story though as the Lady Tigers offense roared to life. Chasidee Owens (Springdale, Ark.) started off the third quarter with a layup and was then fouled in the process. Owens hit the free throw and the game was tied at 29-29.

East Central then went on a quick 7-0 run to take back the lead. The Lady Tigers began to methodically work the ball around and slowly get back into the game. With 2:42 remaining in the quarter Madison Brittain (Bentonville, Ark.) nailed a three-pointer to tie the game at 37.

At the seven second mark in the quarter Devon Branch went up for a layup and Kori Bullard (Hot Springs, Ark.) rejected the shot, Maija Gertson (Liepaja, Latvia) picked up the rebound and tossed it forward to Alivia Huell (Malvern, Ark.). Huell drilled a three-pointer as time ran out. The bucket gave Ouachita a 44-42 advantage heading into the final quarter of play.

The two teams were competitive throughout the fourth quarter with neither team yielding an inch to the other. There were three tie's and three lead changes in the first five minutes of the stanza.

Morgan Miller (Siloam Springs, Ark.) took a pass from Shakyla Begnaud (McGehee, Ark.) with 3:35 to play and sank a three-point basket. A few minutes later Owens finished inside the paint with another layup to give the Lady Tigers a 59-55 lead.

Owens and Miller scored the remaining points in the game to give the Lady Tigers a 69-62 win.

East Central had three scorers finish with double-digit point totals. Branch had 19 points, Aalyiah Blakley had 15 points and Lakin Preisner finished with 12 points.
