ODESSA, Texas — Southern Nazarene swept its first doubleheader since March 29, 2016, and is above .500 for the first time through the first seven games of the season since 2010 after downing Texas-Permian Basin 12-7 and 3-2 Saturday.

The Crimson Storm are now 4-3 and take their first series of the 2018 season.

Unlike either of the games in the Friday doubleheader, both teams' bats came alive in the first game Saturday.

Nearly every spot in the lineup had a hit as the Storm had 14 hits total in the game. Tanner Maskey drove in three runs while going 2-for-2 with a pair of walks and a run scored. Shelby Reese went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored. ¬Cole Lee went 2-for-4 with two runs scored while Austin Cooper and Cole Wagner each went 2-for-5. Cooper drove in a run and scored two while Wagner had two RBIs and a run scored.

Hugo Kinebuchi got his first win of the season to move to 1-0. He did not allow a run and gave up just two hits in 3.1 innings of relief. Austin Cooper closed the game as he retired the side as he faced the minimum three batters. Joe Toilolo gave up seven runs on five hits and walked four in 2.2 innings in the start on the hill.

SNU erupted for eight runs in the first two innings with three in the first and five in the second. The Storm scored all three runs in the first inning in consecutive at bats. Wagner drove in the first run with a fielder's choice before Emilio Escobedo singled through the left side to make it 2-0. Reese drove home the final run of the inning with a single to left to make it 3-0.

Maskey increased the lead to 4-0 with a single through the left side in the top of the second before Escobedo drove home Cooper with a fielder's choice to make it 5-0. Reese drove home another run with his second straight single to make it 6-0 before a 2-run double down the left field line, by Jake Vernon gave the Storm an 8-0 lead.

The Falcons got on the board in the bottom of the second with three runs, but SNU answered in the top of the third with three runs to lead 11-3. Cooper doubled down the left field line to drive in the first run of the inning before Maskey hit a sacrifice fly to center to give SNU a 10-3 advantage. Wagner singled through the left side to drive home the final run of the inning.

UTPB used a four-run bottom of the third to cut it to 11-7, but the Storm closed it out from there and picked up an insurance run in the seventh on a Maskey single through the left side.

In the nightcap, the Storm got a complete-game performance from David Gustafson (1-1) who picked up his first win of his SNU career. The senior struck out a career-high 10 batters and gave up just three runs on two hits in seven innings of work.

All three of the Storm's hits came from different players as Cooper was 1-for-2 with an RBI and Garrett Perez was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Maskey was also 1-for-4.

SNU took a 2-0 lead early with a run each in the first two innings. Cooper drove in the first run with a sac fly to left to score Perez and Reese made it 2-0 in the second as he and Vernon executed a double steal.

UTPB got on the board in the bottom of the third to cut it to 2-1, but the Storm got that run back in the top of the fifth on Falcon error that gave SNU a 3-1 lead. Permian Basin got within one again in the bottom of the fifth with a run, but Gustafson closed the door for his first win of the year.
