DONALD PATRICK (PAT) PARKHURST

Donald Patrick (Pat) Parkhurst, age 68, of Scottsdale, Arizona, died Monday, February 19, 2018, at his home. He was born March 16, 1949, in Pittsburg, Kansas, the son of Arthur Glenn and Harriet Maxine (Pollock) Parkhurst.

Pat was a longtime resident of Alva, Oklahoma. He was a 1967 graduate of Alva Senior High School. Pat was a student leader, active in activities and athletics. He was All District in football, basketball, and baseball, earning All State Alternate in football and All State in baseball. After high school Pat earned a full athletic scholarship in baseball to Oklahoma University. Pat was a three year starter and letterman for the Sooner baseball team. (Freshmen were not eligible for varsity teams in that era.) He earned an MVP award at the Riverside California Baseball Tournament during his junior year. He graduated from Oklahoma University with a degree in business in May of 1973.

Pat married Ceci Morefield in 1969. After college, Pat returned to Alva to begin a 25-year career as an accountant. He started with Frank Morefield Accounting, which later became Pat Parkhurst Accounting. He married Jan Duke and adopted her children April, Scott and Trisha. Pat moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, in 1998 to pursue his dream of working in the golf industry. He passed his PGA player's test and written exam to become a Class B Professional. He worked as a club professional with Marriott Mountain Shadows Golf Resort until his retirement in 2015. While working at Mountain Shadows, Pat met and later married Susan Stanley. Pat and Susan were married March 18, 2016, in Scottsdale where they lived with their beloved dog Bella.

Pat is survived by his wife Susan, and adopted children Scott, April and Trisha; two brothers, Mike and his wife Leslie Parkhurst of Guymon, Oklahoma; Steve and his wife Elizabeth Parkhurst of Alva, Oklahoma; two sisters, Christin (Chris) Parkhurst of Alva, Oklahoma, and Ann Michele (Mickey) Parkhurst of Yukon, Oklahoma. Pat is survived by his aunt Norma Brown of Wichita, Kansas and his uncle Lynn Pollock of Cherokee, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Pat was preceded in death by his mother, Harriet "Maxine" Parkhurst in 1974, his father Arthur G., Parkhurst in 1999 and Art's wife June Parkhurst in 1998.

A celebration of life service will be held in Alva on March 10, 2018, at 2 p.m. at the Catholic Parish Hall. A celebration of life service will also be held in Scottsdale, Arizona, on March 16, 2018.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Alva Senior High School Athletic Program.
