During February, the Alva Police Department made reports on five vehicular collisions.

Feb. 14, 2018

On Feb. 14 there was a two vehicle collision at 2:55 p.m. on Hart Street west of College Boulevard. Ricky Lee Davidson, 41, of Alva in a 2011 Ford F1S was parked in a no parking zone on the south side of Hart Street facing east. He told investigating Officer Timothy Clapp he was parked there waiting for cars to pull forward into the Lincoln Elementary drive to pick up his child.

A 2010 Toyota was parked in the Aspen Apartments parking lot on the north side of Hart Street facing north. Lama Priya, 20, of Woodside, New York, backed the Toyota out of the parking lot and struck the Davidson vehicle. Priya said she saw the Ford but did not see any vehicles in front of Davidson.

Police responded to a collision at noon on Feb. 15 at Fourth Street and Oklahoma Boulevard. David Frank Abraham, 59, of Alva was in a 2018 Toyota Tundra on Fourth Street in the southbound lane stopped at a red light. John David Clapp, 48, of Alva driving a 2002 Chevrolet was stopped directly behind Abraham. A third vehicle was traveling eastbound on Oklahoma Boulevard. The third vehicle made a left turn at the intersection. Believing that vehicle did not have sufficient clearance for the turn, Abraham backed his vehicle. While backing Abraham’s vehicle struck Clapp’s vehicle.

The third vehicle which was not involved in the collision continued north on Fourth Street. Both Abraham and Clapp pulled their vehicles into a nearby parking lot and called for the police. While Officer Kyle Fuller investigated the scene, Officer Timothy Clapp went to locate the third driver. He made contact near Third Street. The driver told Clapp that Abraham’s vehicle was stopped further into the intersection than would have been the practical stopping point; however, the driver said he took all precautions to make the turn safely.

Officer Kyle Fuller was involved with a traffic stop when he heard a nearby collision at Oklahoma Boulevard and Fourth Street at 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 19. Brock Allen Pearson, 49, of Broken Arrow driving a 2011 Ford had been traveling eastbound on Oklahoma Boulevard approaching the intersection with a traffic signal at Fourth Street.

Marcia Jean Dreiling, 65, of Alva in a 2009 Chevrolet was stopped on Fourth in the southbound lane waiting to turn east onto Oklahoma Boulevard. According to the police report, Pearson did not stop at the red light. Having a green light, Dreiling proceeded to turn left and struck the back left panel of the Pearson vehicle.

Both vehicles were moved off the roadway by the drivers, but due to the damage both vehicles had to be towed from the scene. Pearson said he had observed a green light and did not stop. Dreiling said she saw a green light and started the left turn. After reviewing the body-worn camera footage, Fuller observed that Dreiling had a green light at the intersection prior to the collision.

Feb. 21, 2018

On Feb. 21 there was a one-vehicle wreck at 6:50 p.m. on Skyline Road south of Flynn Street. Jason Doty Ridgway, 47, of Alva was driving a 2008 Chevrolet traveling northbound on Skyline. Ridgway told Officer William Shahan he was driving about 40 mph. For an unknown reason, the vehicle left the roadway to the left, went down a hill for 26 feet and struck a pile of dirt causing the vehicle to roll end over front and land on the passenger side of the truck. The vehicle then slid down the hill for another 27 feet backward, coming to rest in the shallow water of a pond. The vehicle was towed from the scene by a wrecker.

Feb. 24, 2018

About 6 a.m. on Feb. 24 K9 Officer John Caviness went to the 300 block of Maple Street for a non-injury accident. He was met by Aaron Vermillion, 33, of Alva who said his 2009 Nissan had been stuck by an unknown vehicle. Vermillion said after the collision the other vehicle left the scene.

Caviness observed extensive front end damage to the vehicle. After Vermillion’s vehicle was struck, it traveled 79 feet east on Maple and then eight feet south on Maple before coming to rest.

The officer canvassed the area looking for the suspect vehicle but was unable to locate it. He requested assistance from Officer Kyle Fuller once it became daylight. Fuller located the vehicle in the 800 block of Fourth St. and made contact with Kurtis Wiersig, 41, of Alva.

Wiersig told Fuller that after striking the vehicle, he stayed at the scene for several minutes before leaving. He did not contact law enforcement about being involved in a motor vehicle accident. Officer Fuller took photographs of the vehicle Wiersig had been driving, a 2017 Ford F150 owned by his employer Mid-States. Damage appeared consistent with damage sustained by Vermillion’s Nissan. Wiersig was issued a citation on March 6 for failure to report an accident.
