A Capron man was injured in a collision Tuesday in Alfalfa County. Robert Wayne Wright, 72, was admitted for head, arm, trunk external and leg injuries at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He was listed in stable condition. Wright was flown to Oklahoma City by Air Evac of Kingfisher.

The two-vehicle collision occurred Tuesday, April 3, at 4:02 p.m. on State Highway 11 at County Road 580 approximately four-tenths of a mile east of Burlington.

Wright was driving a 2011 GMC pickup south on County Road 580. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol report says he failed to yield from a stop sign and his pickup was struck by a 2013 Chevrolet pickup driven by William Taylor Shrum, 25, of Burlington. Shrum was driving east on State Highway 11.

Wright’s pickup came to rest in the roadway, and Shrum’s pickup left the roadway to the right coming to rest in the ditch. Shrum and his passenger, Kevin Lyle Gibson Leslie, 38, of Cherokee, were not injured. Seatbelts were not in use in Wright’s vehicle but were used by both occupants of Shrum’s pickup.

Trooper Justin Barney investigated assisted by Alfalfa County Sheriff’s Office, Burlington Fire Department and Alfalfa County EMS.
