SWOSU Softball Battles Conditions, Lady Bison for Series-Opening Victory

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Softball endured low temperatures and high wind gusts to start their Great American Conference series with a victory over Oklahoma Baptist on Friday afternoon at the Athletic Complex.

During the nightcap of the doubleheader – however – conditions were deemed unplayable and play was suspended until 2:00 pm on Saturday, when the teams will move to Shawnee and attempt to conclude the series.

SWOSU 4, Oklahoma Baptist 3

Hannah Morris scored two runs, including the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning to allow her team to take game one on Friday. SWOSU scored twice in the top of the first on a two-run single off the bat of Sidney Kirk and added another run in the third when Kinsey Skrohscored on a wild pitch to make it 3-1.

Oklahoma Baptist scored single runs in the third and fifth innings to tie the score at 3-3, which is where it would stay until the top of the seventh. With one out in the inning, Morris reached on an infield bunt single before stealing second base and taking third on the play after the OBU throw was off the mark. Amanda Moreno was set to drive Morris in on a sacrifice fly, but the ball was misplayed in center field and still allowed Morris to score the go-ahead run.

OBU loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, but Rileigh Ricken managed to induce a ground ball for a double play to end the game. Ricken (3-13) got credit for the win with a complete-game effort, allowing three runs on seven hits while walking five with one strikeout.

SWOSU 1, Oklahoma Baptist 0 (Top 3rd)

The Bulldogs were off to another strong start in the second game, getting an RBI single from Samantha Householder in the top of the second inning for the early lead. After SWOSU sat the Lady Bison down in order in the bottom of the second, play was suspended due to deteriorating conditions and is set to resume at 2:00 pm on Saturday in Shawnee.
