Margaret Louise Burkett was born October 27, 1922, to Everett and Snowdie Williamson in Moore, Oklahoma. She peacefully left this world to join family and friends April 22, 2018 – an appropriate day for the proud granddaughter of a participant in the Oklahoma Land Run of 1889. She was 95.

Margaret grew up on a farm at SW 119th and Meridian on land that was homesteaded by her Grandfather William Elmer (Billy) Williamson; land that she had retained a portion of throughout her life. She attended Moore schools. She married Gordon Willis Burkett from Newcastle, Oklahoma, on May 7, 1941. Gordon was in the Army Air Corps at the time and in July of 1941 he and Margaret moved to Sacramento, California, where he was stationed and then to several other air bases throughout the country. Margaret would return to Moore during the time Gordon was stationed in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war, Margaret moved with Gordon to several more military bases -- living the life of a military wife.

Gordon and Margaret had two daughters, Lu Ann who was born while they were stationed in Altus, Oklahoma, and Deborah Lee who was born while they were stationed in Agana, Guam.

Following Gordon's retirement from the military they moved back to Oklahoma and built a home on SW 77th street where they lived for 47 years.

Margaret was a housewife and excellent mother to her two daughters. She enjoyed being a part of the Antioch Social Club – a group of relatives and women associated with Antioch Christian Church. She was baptized on August 1, 1993, at Exchange Avenue Baptist Church in Oklahoma City where she and Gordon were active members.

During their retirement years Margaret and Gordon were members of the Oklahoma City Retired Citizens Travel Club and enjoyed many trips both locally and abroad with the club. They were married for 66 ½ years until Gordon's death in December 2007.

Margaret moved to Touchmark at Coffee Creek in Edmond in February 2008 where she lived for the next 10 years making many new friends and enjoying the activities. She liked winning at bingo and working on jigsaw puzzles with the other residents. "Wheel of Fortune" and "The Lawrence Welk" show were never-miss activities. Her family fondly remembers receiving a greeting card for every occasion with the date neatly written on the inside of the card. She enjoyed reading the newspaper comics and would many times enclose a cartoon she had cut from the paper that she thought was appropriate for the recipient. She possessed a witty, humorous charm but also a grounded and firm approach to life.

Margaret is survived by her two daughters, Lu Ann Baker of Alva, and Deborah Cox and husband Bruce of Edmond; grandchildren Erin Louise Stuck and husband Tim of Alva, Chris Baker and wife Janie of Northglenn Colorado, Zane Shaw of Edmond, Geoffrey Shaw and wife Alyssa of Oceanside California, Harrison Shaw of Edmond, Brett Cox and wife Brittany of North Richland Hills Texas and Cassandra Hutchings and husband Garrett of Oklahoma City. She was known as "Big Mom" to six wonderful great-grandchildren.
