Brigance Homer Lifts SE past OBU

 


BENTONVILLE, Ark. – Southeastern survived its first test in the elimination bracket on Friday when Karsyn Brigance connected on an eighth-inning two-run walkoff homer to lift the Savage Storm to an 8-6 victory over Ouachita Baptist in the Great American Conference Tournament in Bentonville, Ark.

The win moves the Savage Storm to 34-22 overall on the season and puts them into a 4:30 p.m. matchup on Friday evening with the loser between Southern Arkansas and Southern Nazarene.

The contest headed to extra innings tied at 6-6, and headed to the bottom of the eighth where Keeshia Thompson reached on an error with one out, and two batter later Brigance stepped to the dish with two down and homered to left field to lift SE to victory and eliminate OBU.

Southeastern looked to be cruising early, putting up five runs in the first inning thanks to a leadoff home run by Elexis Watson, followed by an RBI single from Sydnee Hinkle, an OBU error, a Mykaela Wallace sac fly and a Kennedy Salyers RBI double to pile up a 5-0 lead after one inning.


Thompson added an RBI groundout in the second to push the advantage to 6-0.

The Tigers put together a rally in the fourth, cutting into the Storm lead with four runs before adding two more runs in the top of the sixth to knot the score at 6-6 and set up for Brigance's heroics.

Watson led the way on offense with a pair of hits, while six others added a hit each.

Brigance and Watson each homered, while Salyers added a double.

Brigance added two RBI, while Watson, Thompson, Hinkle, Wallace, and Salyers drove in one apiece.


Kelsey Meeks got the start in the circle and picked up her 28th win after allowing five runs on eight hits in 7.1 innings of work while striking out six.

Destiny Riddle added two-thirds of an inning pitched and allowed a run on a hit.
