Volleyball: Cosby Moves to Top of Digs List in SE Loss

DURANT, Okla. – Caitlin Cosby turned in a match-high 17 digs and in the process became Southeastern's all-time career leader in digs, however the Savage Storm would go on to fall in the contest to Southwestern Oklahoma state, 3-0, on Thursday night in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

The loss drops SE to 7-17 overall on the season and 3-9 in Great American Conference play, still a game out of eighth place behind Northwestern Oklahoma State.

Cosby came into the match needing nine digs to break the record and got all nine of them in the first set before ultimately finishing the night with 17. The performance brings her career total to 1,811, passing Lauren Bienmueller who held the record with 1,802 digs since 2007. Her career total is also now third on the GAC all-time career digs list, trailing only Southern Nazarene's Abbey Bell at 2,482 digs and Arkansas Tech's Madison Nagel at 2,359 digs.


Offensively in the match, Abby Jameson and Arianna baker posted matching match-highs of 10 kills, while Hallie Smith was next in line with seven.

Sydney Meget dished out a match-best 34 assists while also adding four service aces, three blocks and six digs.

Meget's three blocks matched the three put to by Smith to lead the Storm at the net, while behind Cosby, Erika Costain and Taylor Robinson each posted eight digs.

Southeastern used a 7-0 run in the first set to open up a 10-7 lead, and added a 6-0 run later to push its lead out to 20-15, but was unable to maintain the momentum as SWOSU would take 10 of the final 13 points to win the set 25-23.

The Storm would take an early 9-4 lead, but the Bulldogs used a 9-3 run to swipe the lead back from SE. The teams would trade points before SWOSU would pull ahead for good and take a 2-0 lead with a 25-21 win in set two.


The Bulldogs would open the third set with 10-straight points and ultimately opened up on a 16-2 run before the Storm would respond on the strength of three-straight Meget service aces to score six points, but the momentum would not carry as SWOSU took five of the final six points to win the final set 25-14.
