BURLINGTON SCHOOL NEWS: Students begin the season with a food drive

For many years, Burlington Schools have begun each holiday season with a food drive sponsored by the student council.

A competition is held among the classes, encouraging students to bring non-perishable food items for one week. The items are counted and taken to the Alfalfa County Food Bank to help them provide for those in need.

This year, students brought nearly 1,000 items weighing 660 pounds during the week. The food drive winners were the pre-K class with 151 items, the sixth grade with 119 items and the eighth grade with 172 items.
