January meeting of the Cherokee DAR

January 20, 2019

The January meeting of the Cherokee Outlet Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution was held on the Jan. 10 at the Alva Public Library. Regent Barker called the meeting to order and led the eight members present in the patriotic ritual. Committee reports of last year’s activities were presented to aid the regent in preparation of the annual report. Two deaths were recorded in 2018, three $100 Good Citizen Awards were given, and $400 worth of books were donated to the disabled veterans in Wichita, Kansas, by Marceline and Teri Piper.

Alva’s mayor signed a proclamation regarding Constitution Week and 610 hours of volunteer work were recorded by members.

Monthly reports by Secretary Thelma Crouch, and Treasurer Teri Piper were presented and approved. Linda Peterman discussed the good citizen entry from Waynoka. Registrar Marceline Piper told the members that the current death had been recorded and announced the good news that the chapter will be getting a new member in February. This prospective member has had her application in since 2014 so it is extremely gratifying that she will finally become a member next month. She will be welcomed at our next meeting on Feb. 14 at 3 p.m. in the Alva Public Library. Several other prospective members will submit their applications very soon. Anyone who is interested in membership is encouraged to attend.
