The end of an era

Last week’s Newsgram included a notice that Saturday, Feb. 23, would be the last day of broadcast on KALV-AM, Alva. Son-in-law Darrel, who used to work for the station, called it the end of an era. The station’s first license was granted Jan. 2, 1957, according to the Federal Communications Commission website.

Husband Lynn and I purchased the radio station Jan. 1, 1969. Lynn had extensive experience in radio having worked for his father who was one of three men who built a station (KTTR) in Rolla, Missouri. I grew up working around the family weekly newspaper, but I worked at KTTR a few years....
