Last week I had a visit from an Alva resident concerned about the latest scam phone call. He received two calls from someone claiming to be from Social Security telling him his Social Security number had been compromised and was suspended.

When he expressed disbelief, the caller told him it was true and he could check with the police for verification. He hung up, but the reference to the police left a tinge of doubt. So he did exactly what he should and called the Social Security office in Enid. They agreed it was a scam.
