Freedom Town Board keeps it all legal

In a very brief special meeting April 2, the Freedom Town Board – Mayor Shad Brackin, board members Terry Smith and Rolando Galindo, and town clerk Cindy Reed – reviewed bids for installing the new water meters funded by the REAP grant.

After some discussion about the wide variance between the bids, the board decided to table the matter until the next regular town board meeting to give the town clerk a chance to check on insurance and certification requirements and ensure the bidders met those requirements.

The board then approved two purchase orders for the grant fund and then approved the request for payment of those purchase orders from the REAP grant fund (this convoluted approach being a requirement of the grant).

Finally, the board passed an ordinance and approved a resolution to accept the town's updated code book (with much joking about how in 100 years they'll have a book of 100 ordinances consisting solely of ordinances approving updated code books – again, one of those cumbersome legal requirements that seem almost pointless except that they must be done to keep in compliance with the law).
