WELDON SPRINGS, Mo. (AP) — A Missouri medical board has sanctioned a doctor who runs a "cell based regenerative medicine" clinic near St. Louis after state investigators found that he diagnosed and treated bogus illnesses and repeatedly ordered unnecessary and excessive lab tests.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the Missouri Board of Registration for the Healing Arts placed Dr. Russell Imboden's license on probation last month for three years. The board also barred him from providing alternative therapies and faulted his use of protein shakes and chicken bouillon to treat patients with a wide range of conditions, including muscular dystrophy and having an irregular heartbeat.

The website for his Weldon Spring's clinic says it offers "metabolic medicine" and stem cell therapies including plasma injections into patients' faces and genitals to restore youth and vitality.
