OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A woman who was injured when two Oklahoma City police officers opened fire last week on a gun-wielding man was wounded as a result of the officers' gunfire, police said Monday.

Police initially said that 55-year-old Rolana Keeler was shot by her abductor, Elroy Barber, following a two-hour standoff with police outside a fast food restaurant. Barber, 60, died at the scene of the Christmas Eve shooting. Keeler was treated and released from a local hospital.

Police now say it appears Keeler was hit by fragments from an officer's bullet or from a piece of metal from the frame of the car after police opened fire on Barber, according to a police statement.

Capt. Larry Withrow said Barber had a gun aimed at Keeler when officers fired, but that a later investigation determined Barber's gun had not been fired.

"He was threatening her with a gun," Withrow said.

The shooting remains under investigation and the two officers are on paid administrative leave. Once the investigation is complete, the district attorney will determine if the shooting was legally justified.
